My Re-Brand, Re-Launch & V-8 Moment

Ta-da! Well, it’s been a long time coming but and am so very happy to announce the official RE-debut of Blue Tail Designs!

#1 question: “Why the heck has it taken you so long?”

There are a couple of answers here. Originally, the delay started because I pretty much hit the ground running. Right out of the gate, I was blessed with clients. From friends to people that found me on LinkedIn or other places. I kept getting busier and busier. So, as I thought I should… I put everyone else first. All the time. I mean, my clients are my top priority. I would just get my stuff done later. I felt that if I didn’t put them first that I would be doing them a disservice and I even felt selfish just thinking about it. I’d just have to wait.

Oh, I had a little blog going at one point and I even created a couple of little coming soon/portfolio type sites just to have a little something up. Here’s a little look a them (and yes, I know they’re pretty awful lol)…

(I started out as Blue Dog Designs – but that’s a story for another day.)
Can you tell I like dogs?

…but I never took time to give people more information about how I could help them along with things they asked me for, needed and wanted.

I couldn’t see the forest…

I spent a LOT of time and energy working on processes, systems + more to make things easier, to provide better service, give more intuitive advice and just all around creating a better experience for my clients – well, both of us actually.

Then came the V-8 moment. It’s not for me, it’s for YOU!

It finally hit me. I was still missing something. Not taking care of and improving the Blue Tail Designs presence online was really not taking care of you! I mean what the heck was I thinking? I thought I was helping others by NOT working more on Blue Tail Designs but what I was really doing was making things WAY to hard for my (very awesome by the way) clients or other people who might need help by not having easy to access information on things like:

  • Tutorials or easy instructions on how to do things in their websites,
  • Best practices they might be missing out on,
  • Tips for sharing on social media,
  • Resources to find the best software, copy wizards, SEO experts and more,
  • What kind of stuff Blue Tail Designs actually does and how I help,
  • + More!

The whole reason I started Blue Tail Designs was because I love helping people! I want to make your job easier so you can do more of what you love and this site is meant to do just that. I’m so exited and happy that you’re here and I promise not to put things you need aside again!

Welcome to the fresh and promise-to-be-helpful new home of Blue Tail Designs!

Have you ever had those “Ah-ha!” moments? I’d love to hear about it. Maybe it’ll keep me from having more!

PLUS, I’d love to hear what you think of the new digs. Web-stroll around and check things out! 🙂

– Janet

Janet, I LOVE your new website! I can tell that you have put so much time and creativity into it. AMAZING! I wish we could celebrate because I’m sure it feels so wonderful to have it done and out there. Great job!

Thank you so much Katie! 🙂

    Congrats on your re-brand!
It’s hard to put time aside to work on our businesses while growing them, so I’m really happy you decided to go for it.

    • Janet February 26, 2015, 11:56 am

Thanks Jennifer! It took a while to figure out that I needed to do both but growing and learning is what it’s all about! 🙂

  • Leah February 26, 2015, 12:57 pm

Congrats Janet!!! It’s beautiful!! I understand completely why you were focusing on clients and not your own business and it’s actually pretty awesome you were able to bring in new clients without a web presence. But, like you said, you can serve people so much better with one! Another thing I think is important to note is that your website is also your business card. I wanted to send you referrals all the time and although I did give them your email, I know it’s much more likely they would contact you or hire you if they could see what you were all about first 🙂

Love your site and can’t wait to see how your business grows even more with it!

Thank you so much Leah! And so true…I was my own worst nightmare lol – I advise and help people with exactly what I wasn’t doing. It so important (can’t stress that enough) to have an online business card! 🙂 Thanks again girl! Means so much!

I can completely understand putting clients first all the time, but I love how you’ve flipped around the viewpoint. You’re right, if we’re not taking care of ourselves and our business systems, it’s not doing anyone any favours!

      Glad you can relate! 🙂

Love the look. Something familiar about that Paris poster…

    • Janet February 28, 2015, 4:15 pm

      Ah! You recognize it! 🙂

Love it!!! And you’re absolutely right about serving self = improved service for others… I’m getting ready to do a presentation on Burn-Out and Self-Care this weekend, and that’s a concept I plan on bringing up for discussion. I found this great quote while researching for this presentation that I love (and will now share with you): “It is not selfish to refill your own cup so that you can pour into others. It is not a luxury. It is essential.” I don’t know who to attribute it to, though…it was just floating around out there on the interwebs!

  • Janet March 2, 2015, 1:58 pm

Thanks Emily! I love that quote, it’s so true! It was hard to switch gears from being the 200% helper/giver but when I finally realized I could help more by improving and working on my own business duties it was a win-win and what could be better? Good luck on your presentation!
